In the « Delvaux » household, the love of art seems to be in the blood. Whether a facetious allusion or a simple coincidence, eva delvaux does not depart from this generality.
She has forty years' experience in the workshop, spent mainly in the field of painting. Having mastered the tools and materials, flat canvasses become vehicles for a wide range of messages and emotions, like outlets for emotions that are too intense to be contained. The colours, the forms, the subjects and intensity of the strokes indicate a compelling need to communicate.
Then, the two-dimensional plane is no longer sufficient. A more expressive consistency becomes necessary, as if to satisfy a whetted appetite. And so the creations are expanded into relief. In terms of communication, eva delvaux has moved into the area of expression. In keeping with this, there is a broadening of the meaning and message of the works.
Along with the materials in the painter's palette are volumes that are moulded and then distorted from their primary use. Still bound to the two-dimensional and then being liberated from it. Her tone also evolves: from an outlet for feelings, it slips quite naturally, as if drawn by an inescapable gravity, towards a simple platform on which subjects are dealt with. Those that surround us, and those that challenge us.
Then, once again, the medium is no longer sufficient. A particular affection then turns the artist towards incapacitated objects. Thus, casualties of production workshops, or victims of fashion or of obsolescence become, in her hands, soothed in the gentleness which their distress arouses in her, invested with a new life, heralds of a patiently accumulated wisdom.
