Eric,
1. I am concerned about the scientific principle of your unit. Please see one of the science people about this. i am not convinced of how the Ohm's Law, Kinetic energy and power are connected to the fan. Also, given that David indicated that the fan does not run off of perpetual energy (which is impossible), i think you may need to stay in the math area rather than focus on the science.
2. Your Essential questions should be the questions that push students toward researching. Like, How are people worldwide affected by global warming? What methods are used for cooling worldwide? How might some of those methods be applicable here in the US. Then the students should be the ones who discover a Supreme Grren Fan or discover something to provide cheap cooling. It might end up being something like what you see at the zoo when you walk by an area and get sprayed with water mists. Perhaps the math in your unit could be an off shoot of that and determine the quadratics of the actual spray.
3. A misconception is the misconception that students may have in reference to the mathematics of your unit. For example distinguishing between means and ral tendency. Students experience difficulty in understanding how the different measures of central tendency are used. Because students are used to finding the average (adding and dividing by the number of addends), students have memorized the algorithm for finding mean, but they don't understand the algorithm.
4. You have already identified the Supreme Green Fan as the solution to your unit. In Challenge Based lessons, the students have to discover the solutions and then test the validity of the solutions.
5. A rubric gives an example of what an outstanding or Limited product looks like. it is more than just a list of items that the product should contain.
6. Your lessons will need to be explicit, including assessments. They do not seem to be included in your unit template.
7. I was able to see your poster, but not your video. The poster should have REAL pictures rather than clip art.
8. I will be at UC today. Perhaps we can talk then.
