There could not have been a more perfect venue than the 2016 Japanese Classic Car Show to show off the diesel turbine-electric hybrid RX-7. In the shadow of the Queen Mary, the Long Beach weather was near perfect, if a bit on the warm side. ERD Engineering's 1986 Mazda RX-7 was accepted to the car on an invitational basis. Next year we can be admitted to the show as a full entrant. And believe us, we will be back next year.
While we didn't win our category (the competition was very fierce for resto-modded RX-7s), we still turned a lot of heads! We weren't able to start the turbine due to show rules. Nonetheless, Dr. Nguyen Huu got myriad opportunities to explain the diesel turbine-electric hybrid drivetrain's operation to crowds of enraptured attendees.
The winner of our category was Elvis (@13beezboost) with his gorgeous blaze-red RX-7. We took a picture with Elvis literally standing in front of his car (that beautiful Nobel white RX-7 belongs to Elvis's cousin).
