At this point, the tutorial has to start breaking down checklists into different sections by type to help curb any confusion.
Begin this section by creating story_projectx. This file should contain no front a/o back matter.
Conclude the section by 'sealing' or sequestering all that work in full_projectx.
story_projectx is created (Remember that filetype does not yet matter. .doc, .docx, .odf, .rtf or whatever is fine.)
story_projectx contains only the story block to be turned into an e-book.
Users using the Scandal in Bohemia file should also rename the RTF file story_projectx
story_projectx is a fallback-only file. No changes should ever be made to this file for any reason. When something goes wrong, users always have this unaltered file to fall back on.
Before any front or back matter is added around the story block, users must use SaveAs to create a working copy named matter_projectx.
Work only in matter_projectx. Front and back matter should be added to the matter_projectx file.
A copy of the cover art file must be placed in the desktop production folder.
Best practice: either add a cover_ prefix to the cover art file's filename, or rename the file cover.*** (*** represents the cover-art file's filetype, likely jpg or png)
Any other images used in projectx must be copied into the desktop production folder.
Once all additional content has been added a/o gathered, save the file.
After regular-old saving, use SaveAs to create a copy named full_projectx. This file should contain all content desired in the finished projectx.
full_projectx is another fall-back-only file. No changes should ever be made to this file. Hold this file sacred so that if something goes wrong in the next section, this content is always clean and ready for re-use once more.
##Revise: Will this section be necessary? Content seems a bit sparse.
Do not include a table of contents as front or back matter. Sigil does this for us later.
Special supplemental section on front and back matter.
Save a trial version of the story content to the desktop production folder.
Name the file story_projectx.
Before adding any additional content to the story_projectx file, use SaveAs to create a working copy.
Name the copy matter_projectx.
During the following steps, please work only in the matter_projectx file. This preserves the story_projectxfile intact, just in case of screw-ups.
Please add a title page to the matter_projectx file.
This should include the e-book title, subtitle (if applicable), series name and number (if applicable), and the name of the author(s).
Place the label ‘Title’ above your title-page content.
Add a license page to the matter_projectx file.
Add the label ‘License’ ahead of the content.
Continue to add all desired front matter to the matter_projectx file.
Label each section with an appropriate section header, similar to the Title and License pages.
Add an ‘About The Author’ back-matter page to the matter_projectx file.
Make sure this page has an “About The Author” label, similar to Title and License pages.
A copy of the cover-art must be placed in the desktop production folder.
Recommended: Rename the cover art file cover.*** (The *** represents the cover-art file's filetype.) OR simply slap a cover_ prefix before the existing filename. This makes life ever so much easier for fatigued eyes later.
Double-check that all front and back matter has been added to the projectx file.
Double-check that all front and back matter sections include a header label.
Using SaveAs, create a copy named full_projectx in the desktop production folder.
