Winning:
The Spy wins if they kill the King after all Rebels, Loyalists, and any other Spies have been eliminated. The final showdown must be a one-on-one battle between the Spy and the King for the Spy to claim victory.
Losing:
The Spy loses if the King dies before the other players are eliminated or if the Spy is killed.
The Spy’s role is one of the most challenging and requires patience and careful manipulation of the other players. The Spy wins only if they can eliminate all other players and then defeat the King in a one-on-one battle.
One-on-One Requirement:
The Spy must be the last player standing with the King before delivering the final blow. If even one other player is alive, the Spy cannot win.
Multiple Spies:
In games with two Spies, they are not on the same team and must eventually eliminate one another. Only one Spy can win, meaning they will have to kill each other as well as all the other players.
Killing Opponents:
The Spy does not need to personally kill every player, but they must ensure all other enemies are dead before facing the King. This can be achieved through manipulating other players into fighting each other or relying on game mechanics to eliminate rivals.
Spy Death:
Once a Spy is killed, they cannot win, even if another Spy wins later. Each Spy must secure their own victory.
No Reward for Killing a Spy:
There is no reward or punishment for killing a Spy, unlike Rebels, who grant card rewards when killed.
Priority Over Rebels:
If the Spy successfully kills all other players and defeats the King, the Rebels do not win, even if the King has been killed. The Spy’s victory takes precedence.
Balancing the Game:
The Spy’s success hinges on keeping the King alive while also preventing the Loyalists and Rebels from gaining too much momentum. The Spy should work to keep the game balanced, helping either side when necessary to maintain control of the situation.
Careful Roleplay:
A novice Spy may act too much like a Loyalist, supporting the King until the end of the game. However, this strategy often backfires, as the King can simply defeat the weakened Spy after the other players are eliminated. Instead, the Spy should subtly weaken both sides while keeping themselves in a position to outlast everyone.
Playing Smart:
If the other players recognize the Spy's role, they may choose not to focus on eliminating them. For the Rebels, killing the Spy is a waste of time, as the King is their ultimate target. Similarly, the Loyalists and King may prioritize Rebels since there is a three-card reward for killing them. The Spy should exploit this dynamic to stay alive.
Don’t Overplay the Loyalist Role:
It is crucial that the Spy does not act as a full-fledged Loyalist. A Spy that plays this way until the Rebels are eliminated will find themselves isolated in the final confrontation with a healthy King, making victory nearly impossible. Instead, the Spy must subtly work against both sides while maintaining enough cover to avoid being targeted too soon.
When playing as a Spy, patience and manipulation are key. Keeping the King alive long enough to eliminate the Rebels and Loyalists, while ensuring that you are the last remaining player, is essential for victory. A well-played Spy will help maintain the balance of the game until the time is right to strike.
