Winning:
The Reckless Hero can only win after transforming into a new role, by killing another player. Once transformed, the Reckless Hero can win by achieving that role's victory conditions.
Losing:
The Reckless Hero loses if they are killed or if another role achieves victory.
This is an unofficial role created by fans of of the game. Although it is not official it has been made into physical cards and has seen some spread in the community.
The Reckless Hero begins the game unable to win. In order to have a chance at victory, the Reckless Hero must first transform by killing any other player. After transforming, the Reckless Hero takes on a new role, randomly selected from a set of roles. The Reckless Hero can then win by fulfilling the requirements of that new role.
Transformation Requirement:
The Reckless Hero can only transform by killing another player. If the Reckless Hero is unable to kill someone, they cannot win.
Random Role Assignment:
After successfully killing a player, the Reckless Hero transforms. They are given a deck of role cards, including one King, one Rebel, one Loyalist, one Spy, and one Overlord (only if there isn't already an Overlord in play). The Reckless Hero randomly selects one of these roles, much like at the beginning of the game.
King Transformation:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into a King, they must kill the current King in order to win. The Reckless Hero keeps their identity card face down, and the game does not end if they kill the King. Instead, the Reckless Hero reveals their new identity as the King, and the game continues. The remaining players must now attempt to fulfill their new roles, while the ex-Reckless Hero wins by achieving the King's victory conditions.
Rebel Transformation:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into a Rebel, they continue the game as a Rebel, and can win just like any other Rebel by killing the King.
Loyalist Transformation:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into a Loyalist, they continue the game as a Loyalist, and can win by defending the King and defeating the Rebels.
Spy Transformation:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into a Spy, they continue the game as a Spy, and must ensure that all other players are killed before finally defeating the King.
Overlord Transformation:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into an Overlord, they flip over their role card immediately and continue the game as an Overlord. They can win just like a normal Overlord by killing all other players. Note that there can only be one Overlord in any game. If an Overlord is already in play, the Reckless Hero cannot transform into another Overlord.
Transforming Before Rewards:
When the Reckless Hero kills a Rebel or any other player, they transform before any rewards for killing a player are distributed. For example, if the Reckless Hero kills a Rebel and then transforms into an Overlord, they only draw two cards (the reward for an Overlord killing a player), whereas transforming into any other role would grant them three cards.
Killing a Loyalist as King:
If the Reckless Hero kills a Loyalist and then transforms into a King, there is no penalty for the killed Loyalist. This is because the ex-Reckless Hero remains face down and cannot officially become the King until they kill the current one.
Killing the King:
If the Reckless Hero kills the King, they transform before a winner is declared. If they transform into a King, they immediately flip over their role card, becoming the new King, and the game continues. If they transform into an Overlord, they also flip over their card, become the Overlord, and proceed to kill the King, forcing all remaining players to become Rebels. However, if the Reckless Hero transforms into a Rebel, Loyalist, or Spy, the game ends, and a winner is declared according to normal game conditions.
High-Risk, High-Reward:
The Reckless Hero starts in a precarious position, unable to win until they successfully kill another player. This makes the early game especially dangerous, as they are vulnerable and may need to take risks to secure their transformation.
Adaptability:
After transforming, the Reckless Hero must adapt to the new role they are assigned. Whether becoming a King, Rebel, Loyalist, Spy, or Overlord, they must quickly shift their strategy to meet the unique conditions of their new role.
Target Selection:
Choosing the right target is crucial. While any kill will trigger the transformation, the Reckless Hero should carefully consider who to attack based on the current game dynamics. Sometimes taking out a weakened player or a strategic target can make the post-transformation game easier.
Surprise Factor:
Since the Reckless Hero’s transformation is unpredictable, they hold an element of surprise. Opponents will have difficulty planning around the Reckless Hero’s eventual role, giving them an advantage in the later stages of the game. This uncertainty can also cause other players to act cautiously around the Reckless Hero, providing openings for bold plays.
Endgame Shift:
If the Reckless Hero transforms into the King, Overlord, or Spy, the game shifts dramatically. The Reckless Hero should be prepared for the game’s tone and alliances to change quickly, and they must capitalize on this shift to win.
The Reckless Hero is a wild card role, requiring adaptability, careful target selection, and bold gameplay to secure a transformation and eventual victory. With the power to change the course of the game, the Reckless Hero adds an exciting dynamic to every match.
