Treat the World 济世
Hua Tuo may discard one card of each suit to choose a player who has already died. That player is then revived with 1 health and draws cards equal to their health limit.
Five Birds 五禽
Once per turn, Hua Tuo can use a card from his hand and force every other player to use the same card.
If any player cannot respond with the required card, Hua Tuo takes one card from that player.
Herbal Medicine 本草
Whenever any player uses a Peach, Hua Tuo recovers 1 health.
Hua Tuo can use "Five Birds" for any card that he uses. Other players then have to use a card that is the same. This means that if Hua Tuo uses a Blaze, then every other player must use a Blaze or Hua Tuo will take a card from them. If Hua Tuo uses a Fire Attack, players must then use that. Other types of attacks are not acceptable.
If players do in fact use cards in response to Hua Tuo's "Five Birds", these cards all take effect in the normal order.
When a player is resurrected with "Treat the World" they keep the same general and role that they had before in the game. No matter how much damage they took when they died, they are restored to one health. When they return, they are in their default starting positions: they are not in Chains, nor are the flipped, even if they died that way. They lost all their equipment and cards when they died, so the cards they draw will be the only cards they have. They also will not have any pending judgment cards on them since these would be lost when they died. If the character uses any tokens of any sort these are all discarded when they die. This means that they are starting over from scratch when they are revived.
Singe use abilities retain the status that they had before. If they used it already, they cannot use it again. If they have not done it yet, they can do it when applicable now.
Beginning of game abilities, such as Fire Zhuge Liang God or Zuo Ci, do not go into effect when they are revived. They are rejoining the game already in progress. This means that Zhuge Liang would be without his Stars, and Zuo Ci would restart without any Forms.
When someone comes back they are still considered 'dead' for the winning requirements of either side. This means that if a rebel is brought back, the king does not need to re-kill them. It might make their life easier, but if they kill all the other rebels and spy with the revived one still around, the game ends because all the rebels and spy were killed. The same works for the spy or loyalist. To symbolize that someone is on their revived life, their role card is to remain face up as they play.
Since they were already killed, there is no reward for re-killing a rebel.
Hua Tuo cannot benefit from "Herbal Medicine" if he is at full health.
"Treat the World" can dramatically alter the game's balance by reviving a key player, giving Hua Tuo’s team a significant boost in resources and morale.
"Five Birds" forces opponents to lose or use cards they might prefer to keep, and it can also provide Hua Tuo with extra cards by taking from those unable to respond.
"Herbal Medicine" offers consistent, incremental healing whenever a Peach is played, enhancing Hua Tuo's longevity.
Hua Tuo’s toolkit enables him to both support his team and disrupt opponents.
"Treat the World" demands one card of each suit, which may be difficult to assemble if Hua Tuo’s hand is limited.
"Herbal Medicine" only triggers when a Peach is used and does not work if Hua Tuo is at full health, reducing its utility in some situations.
"Five Birds" requires opponents to have the specific type of card Hua Tuo uses; against players with fewer cards or diverse hands, the ability might yield minimal benefit.
The revived player loses all equipment and previous effects, meaning the benefit is substantial but temporary and may not fully restore their former impact.
Synergistic Healers:
Allies like Hua Tuo’s historical counterpart Hua Tuo himself or other healing specialists, like Cai Wenji can compensate for the health cost associated with gathering the necessary cards for "Treat the World."
Card Generators:
Characters who frequently draw or manipulate cards, such as Guo Jia or Liu Bei, help ensure Hua Tuo has a rich supply of cards to meet the suit requirement.
Disruption Specialists:
Teammates who force opponents to discard, such as Gan Ning complement "Five Birds," as opponents may have fewer cards to respond with, making the ability more effective.
Revival Synergy:
In team compositions where key players are prone to being eliminated, like Huang Gai, Hua Tuo’s ability to bring them back can be a game-changing asset.
As King, Hua Tuo’s revival power can be pivotal in maintaining the balance of power. However, his abilities are more supportive than offensive, making him reliant on his teammates to secure victory.
In the Loyalist role, Hua Tuo excels by reviving and healing allies, ensuring the King and key Loyalists remain in the game. His disruption through forced card usage also helps keep Rebels at bay.
Hua Tuo can be effective as a Rebel by reviving fallen allies to continue the pressure against the King. His healing support and disruption capabilities allow him to mitigate enemy advantages.
As a Spy, Hua Tuo’s abilities offer flexibility in shifting resources between factions, and his revival power can be used strategically to influence the outcome of critical battles.
Hua Tuo is a unique support character who combines revival, disruption, and healing in a versatile package. His ability to bring back a fallen ally through "Treat the World" can dramatically shift the momentum of the game, while "Five Birds" forces opponents to reveal or use their cards, potentially weakening their positions. Although his healing is conditional, it adds a steady regenerative effect that helps sustain his team. Mastering Hua Tuo requires careful hand management and timing, making him a rewarding choice for players who favor strategic depth and support-oriented gameplay.
Hua Tuo was a legendary physician during the late Eastern Han dynasty, renowned for his unparalleled medical skills and innovative treatments. In historical accounts and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Hua Tuo is celebrated as the "Immortal Doctor," whose methods were so advanced that they seemed almost magical. His reputation for treating grievous injuries and reviving patients made him an indispensable figure in an era of constant warfare and political turmoil.
Hua Tuo’s abilities in Sanguosha are designed to reflect his historical persona. "Treat the World" mirrors his skill in resurrecting the dying, symbolizing the hope and renewal he brought to those he treated—even though, in the historical narrative, his efforts were often met with tragic outcomes due to political intrigues. "Five Birds" represents his innovative and far-reaching approach to medicine, as he could force opponents to reveal their hidden strengths or weaknesses, much like how his treatments unveiled the potential for recovery in even the most dire situations. Finally, "Herbal Medicine" embodies his enduring legacy as a healer, providing incremental recovery whenever life-saving measures were undertaken.
Through these abilities, Hua Tuo’s card in Sanguosha captures the dual nature of his historical impact—both as a miracle worker who restored life and as a tragic figure caught in the ruthless currents of power during the Three Kingdoms period.
