Cyberbullying. What comes to mind when you think of those words? Who is being bullied online more, males or females? As a group we decided to find answers to these questions and found out some surprising statistics, which we included in this essay and in our powerpoint. Being a victim of cyberbullying myself I felt a deep connection to this topic and was really motivated to find out why males in college are bullied more than females. I was cyberbullied by a male in highschool and it caused everyone at the school to look at me the wrong way. This left me with no friends and I honestly didn't know who to turn to until the bullying got bad enough that the school contacted my parents and together we sent the person who cyber bullied me to jail. This is a serious crime and people shouldn’t be afraid to speak up for what is right, even if it is embarrassing.
In Project one we were asked to evaluate who we were as people and how our family views affected who we are today as people. Individual identity is very important when it comes to our topic of cyber bullying because most bullies online come from rough backgrounds and find enjoyment in making others lives as miserable as theirs. This can also be because of life experience as to when the bullies were the victims and now they want to get back at their bully by cyberbullying. Essentially this is fighting fire with fire and we believe this is how cyberbullying becomes such a huge subject matter now with social media on the rise. Racism also has to do with project one because it discusses beliefs about a certain group of people. Someone's view on person because of their skin color can lead to cyberbullying with racial slurs. These are all over Instagram and Facebook, known as memes, they are pictures of a person or people with a caption that is meant to be humorous, but can also be insensitive and hurtful.
In Project two we were asked to find an article on rhetorical analysis and how how the writer used ethos, pathos and logos. We used this in our project by supporting all of our claims with in text citations and factual evidence from credible sources. Analysing articles about cyberbullying gave us a clear understanding of why they are the way they are and how the problems can be solved but never totally erased. Bullying is always going to happen because that is just the nature of how some people are. There is a lot of false information floating around about cyberbullying that is not credible. As a group I believe at first this was a obstacle that we had to overcome and in the end we were able to find a number of credible sources which we included in our in text citations. Many articles we scanned had a strong tone of almost disapproval towards the cyberbullies which is to be expected.
This project was over Cyberbullying which we all came to agreement on that cyberbullying is the form of bullying you see more than actual bullying which is physical abuse. The way we did this project was to show people that they should really take this serious. We have statistics over college freshmen and high school freshmen, it showed that high school females get bullied more than the males in high school and college males get bullied more than females in college.
We didn’t know that college males get bullied more than females so we asked why is that the case. We came up with that males get bullied more because, they come out being gay, being less confident (body image), dating a certain number of girls and gaming system. Then we wonder how does cyberbullying takes place with the gaming system. It is actually common for bullies to swarm to cyberspace and online video games to harass others.
We decide to come up with survey questions to see how people feel about cyberbullies and what prevents it. The internet has a lot to with cyberbullying since it takes place with technology. Majority of people agreed that the bullies chose to bully through internet because they avoid face to face conflict and they are scared to face the person they are bullying because behind the device they are really weak but since they are protected behind the device they can do and say whatever without anyone doing anything about. Majority of the time the bully is anonymous.
