Task

Well, good thing you have an incredible music teacher to help you with creating a back beat for your project! Did you know that learning how to create your own tracks can help with other future projects so you won't have to worry about stealing someone else's work or infringe on copyright laws?

In this WebQuest, you will be reviewing concepts from previous lessons and years of study. Feel free to move at a pace that is right for your group. You may review videos as many times as needed or skip through if you are comfortable with the concepts. Just remember to complete all of the tasks.

The goal of the WebQuest is to form a group of 4 and create a rhythmic composition using Quaver's Marvelous World of Music, www.quavermusic.com, as your platform. This composition will reinforce what you know about beat, meter, and rhythmic notation.

Your composition will include:

    • 6 measures
    • quarter notes, 8th notes, and 16th notes
    • whole rests, half rests, and quarter rests
    • a rhythmic (meaning we should see notes) rather than iconic (boxes or pictures) to show your rhythm.

Please avoid:

    • using a lot of 8th rests (if any)
    • a composition shorter than 6 measures. (scroll at the bottom to see more measures and watch the tutorial video)

Because beat, meter, and rhythms are the foundation for the final project, it is important that you understand these elements. Just like we would not want to build a house without a solid foundation on the bottom, we don't want you to move ahead before you are ready. Make sure you take the time at the beginning to review each section and complete the tasks. Please ask questions as they come up.
