Sock it to Compassion 2016

During the first week of February, 785 pairs of new socks were collected for distribution to the local homeless population by the Emerald Compassionate Action Network team. Seven Eugene churches responded to the "Sock it to Compassion" challenge. The socks were distributed to White Bird, Occupy Medical and Catholic Community Services.

As part of an effort to create a culture of compassion to heal the hurt and negativity in our global community, this local team formed a cooperative effort that will be reported to Compassion Games International, an activity inspired by the Charter for Compassion. On February 28, 2008 Karen Armstrong won the TED Prize and made a wish: for help creating, launching and sharing a Charter for Compassion. Thousands of people contributed to the process of creating the Charter and on November 12, 2009 the Charter was unveiled to the world.

In 2013 , the Compassion Games began to use the word "coopetition" to describe their annual games. Who can commit the most acts of kindness and compassion? Everybody wins!

From February 1st to the 7th, The World Interfaith Harmony Week Coopetition is a 7-day global challenge to promote acts of peace, harmony, collaboration and tolerance between people of all faith and spiritual traditions, including none. It is an opportunity for any organization, group, congregation, place of worship or interfaith community to play in the spirit of a growing global unity and respect for all members of the human family.

The Compassion Games wish to make known the strong undercurrent of interfaith work already happening in the world, and to bring attention to this remarkable work so its positive momentum can continue to inspire and grow. There are many ways that individuals and teams can play, from organizing creative service projects to performing acts of kindness.
