Electronic communication is quickly becoming the De facto standard of communication in our Districts and entities. As with all such communications, there are requirements and laws for storing, retaining and retrieving. Storing E-communications is as important as storing any type of business-related document and the failure to do so, especially in the case of litigation, can be costly.
All business communications (including E-communications) go through the following stages:
Creation
Distribution
Retention
Retrieval
Destruction (in some cases: must be authorized by an approved retention and disposal schedule)

This session is given from one practioner's perspective and should not be construed as legal advice nor the best policy for your entity. Each entities' situation is unique and before implementing any policy, your entity should consult with legal counsel.
