Oral-B Pro 1500

The Oral-B Smart 1500 is a new model that has been improved on a few but crucial points. The motor provides faster brush head movements and a high quality battery is also part of the update. For a price of around 50-60 dollars, you can get a very high-quality electric toothbrush without any real weaknesses.

The Oral-B Pro 1500 reviewed here plays an important role in the Oral B lineup. It is the first model in an updated Pro series with the stronger motor. We wanted to see where the differences to the classic series lie and how the new version compares to the classic models.

As with all Oral-B Pro models, the Pro 1500 is a rotating toothbrush that can be combined with all available round brush heads from the brand. 

The manufacturer is offering more and more options, so you now have the choice of no less than 10 different brushes: CrossAction, 3DWhite, Sensi Ultrathin, Sensitive, Precision Clean, Deep Cleaning, TriZone, Dual Clean, Power Tip, Ortho Care. 

When you buy the Oral-B Pro 1500, only one  CrossAction brush head is included with the handle. If you want to try other versions, you have to buy them separately. 

Features

The Oral-B Pro 1500 features a stronger motor than many older models that provides 9,900 oscillations and 45,000 pulsations of the brush head per minute. 

The battery has also been improved on the new model and the old NiMH version has been replaced by a modern Li-Ion battery. This is also best charged all night long but then offers enough juice for about 2 weeks (according to the manufacturer). 

In contrast to more expensive models from the same manufacturer, there are only two cleaning modes to choose from - daily cleaning and gum protection - which are probably absolutely sufficient for most people. 

The pressure control reacts three times, automatically reduces the brushing speed, stops the pulsations and also activates a light signal in the handle. Other extras such as a case or app support are not available here.

Review

Despite the price, the brush handle here is relatively thin, but the quality of workmanship is good at all corners and ends. The electric toothbrush lies well and safely in the hand and if necessary, one can rinse it under the tap with a clear conscience without having to worry about it. 

The charging station is simple, but it is also very stable and hardly to break. The lithium-ion battery does not only look good on the datasheet, it can also more than convincing in practice. In the test, the light, which indicates a low charge level, only lights up after 12 days - and that with two or sometimes three uses a day.

The handling is, as you are used to with Oral-B, wonderfully simple and even newcomers to the field of electric tooth cleaning should quickly get to grips with it. The pressure control works flawlessly and absolutely reliably in the test and hardly allows any gum damaging use of the Oral-B Pro 1500. The integrated timer signals the end of a 2-minute use with a longer vibration alarm and also indicates with short vibrations every 30 seconds that the quadrant needs to be changed. If this is adhered to, there is nothing to prevent optimum dental care with the Pro 1500.

In comparison to many older Oral-B models, the engine power has been increased and you can feel this directly. The almost 10,000 oscillations per minute are not only impressive on paper, they also provide noticeably better cleaning results. The teeth become noticeably brighter after the first few uses and also appear very smooth and pleasantly clean immediately after brushing. Due to the reliable pressure control, the gums do not suffer particularly and even people with sensitive gums can use it without hesitation.

Conclusion

Those who want to do without any minor extras and equipment, but don't want to make any concessions in terms of the inner values, might be exactly right with the Oral-B Pro 1500. The cleaning performance and workmanship are very good and there are hardly any real points of criticism in terms of handling and gum protection. The price is in any case very fair.
