Project Definition

Introduction

Assamese is the eastern-most Indo-European language and is an official language of the state of Assam, India. Assamese as a spoken, written, and literary language has a rich history. However, that richness is not well represented on the Internet yet.

The Purpose (Mission)

The mission of the ই-জোনাকী যুগ (e-jōnākī-jug) initiative is to be a catalyst for increasing the scale of Assamese content on the Internet and to promote the creation of online repositories of Assamese literature -- both classic and new.

Objectives

1. Enhance existing online Assamese content and make it searchable (unlike content in image form)
1. Define technical requirements for creating online Assamese content in scale
2. Rationalize the available tool set for creating online Assamese content in scale
3. Deliver subject matter expertise to complementary initiatives building online repositories of Assamese literature

In addition, there will need to be awareness-building work for each objective targeted at authors, publishers, and appropriate literary organizations.

Deliverables

The list is being updated. Some of the possibilities are:

1. Create software tools that would be able to process volume of data in Assamese
   1. OCR
   2. Dictation softwares
   3. Text To Speech
