Prof. Can Yang gave a talk on "Data-Driven Approaches to Precision Health". As most of the common diseases have a genetic component, comparing it with the inherited DNA become an important approach in health management over the past decades. In this talk, Prof. Yang discussed how data-driven approaches can identify if a person is at high risk for a specific disease in a relative shorter time which allows better prevention.

Prof. Hongyu Zhao from Yale University visited us. During the visit, we have a comprehensive discussion on statistical genetics, including genetic signature of human face and complex diseases, genetic correlation between different phenotypes, Mendelian Randomization for causal inference with genetic data. We also had a discussion on deep learning and its impact on modern statistics.

Dr. Xinyue Li from Yale Center for Statistical Genomics and Proteomics (YCSGP), Yale University visited us. She delivered a talk at our Statistics and Data Science Seminar about Wearable Device Data analytics. In particular, she showed how to develop statistical method to stably estimate sleep status using Hidden Markov Models and extract periodic signals from wearable device data, and connect these signals with human genetic data.

ShunKang ZHANG, a visiting UG student in our group, developed a pipeline for photo blending and rendering, including segmentation (using Deeplabv3) and style transfer (using VGG19 for feature match).
