Also referred to as socioconstructivism or sociocultural constructivism, social constructivism, or sociohistoricism - this theory is rooted in constructivism, but it emphasizes the role of community and our surroundings in the creation of knowledge. Meaning can vary but it is nevertheless defined by the community of practitioners which uses it.
Making meaning then is the result of active participation in socially, culturally, historically, and politically situated contexts.
