We all are familiar with the acne that appears on our face and body, but very few know that acne appears on the scalp as well. Scalp is an extension of our skin and just like how our body is prone to acne our scalp also tends to develop acne. It is important to understand what acne is in order to get rid of it.
Incorrect diet, build up of dirt, dust and bacteria, usage of too many hair care products, not washing your hair frequently and applying excessive oil or keeping oil for a long time can lead to scalp acne.
Acne on the face or any other part of the body is easily visible, which makes it easy to detect and effective steps can be taken to get rid of it. However, detecting scalp acne can be difficult because it is not easily visible due to the hair on our scalp, but that doesn’t mean we can’t detect it.
Take your fingers and massage your scalp slowly, if you feel any bumps like acne on your scalp then it means that you have scalp acne.
What are the side effects of scalp acne?
Our scalp determines the quality of our hair. Scalp acne is not good for your scalp and can increase hair fall and decrease hair growth. It also leads to thinning hair.
Scalp acne can be treated and prevented from appearing again, provided you follow the following steps
*Wash your hair regularly
Dust, dirt and bacteria are everywhere. And just how it sticks to our body, it also sticks to our scalp as well. Having bath daily can do more damage than good, wash your hair every alternate day and make sure there is no shampoo residue left.
* Exfoliation
Dead skin does not only appear on our body but it also appears on our scalp. Exfoliation helps you to get rid of dead skin on your scalp which promotes scalp health. You can either opt for natural DIY exfoliation remedies or exfoliation shampoos. Use this once a week or once in 15 days.
* Have a proper diet
The very reason that cause acne on face and body cause acne on scalp and therefore one must keep a watch on their diet. Excessive sugar consumption, fatty food and processed foods can cause scalp acne. Make sure you always drink enough water and stay hydrated because it helps prevent acne.
* Use hygienic tools
Hair brush, comb, hair towel, the pillow that you sleep on and any other hair care tools need to be cleaned every week without fail. What is the point of washing your hair, if you are going to use dirty or unhygienic products?
