We have a new website!
improvisation [̩ɪmpɹəvaɪˈzeɪʃən]
n. the art of making things up
If you asked someone, you might get a bunch of definitions of improv.
"Oh, it’s a game. That one where someone goes into a store returning something.”
"Improv? It’s giving a speech without planning what to say beforehand. Like.. KITTYSTEAKS!”
"No, improv is writing.”
And so we submerge into a sea of confusion on what this activity actually is. When we begin to compare definitions, we come up with one key idea that involves all these versions of improv. Scientists say improvisation is letting go of the part of your brain that controls self-monitoring and merely spewing things out from the area that directs self expression. In this way, improv can be applied to any discipline, be it comedy, writing, acting, music, etc. In this activity, we’ll be exploring improv in some of its different areas, which may include comedy, acting, writing. If you have suggestions for more types of improv, feel free to let us know (bairdkline@gmail.com) (stevencl1044@gmail.com) and we can consider your ideas. Prepare to be amazed by what your brain can do.
