about

ECHS Drama to ECS Performing arts

The Echols County High School Drama Club is the only extracurricular fine arts department of Echols County Schools. Each year, this non-funded program works to bring entertainment and the fine arts to our community and school as well as compete in Georgia High School Association One Act Play and Literary competitions.

Established in 2010, the organization has seen both growth and success the past five school years. ECHS Drama membership has increased to almost forty members, and its participation in the Georgia High School Association Literary and One Act Play events, has earned the organization six Area 2A Championship titles, one GHSA State Runner-Up title, and the school’s very first GHSA State Championship title.

In Fall of 2012, ECHS Drama was named Pioneer Drama's "Touching Lives Through Theatre" grant recipient, and produced the community's first ever staged musical, Pioneer Drama's "The Taming of Katy Lou."

The organization continues to grow, hoping to continue to build an appreciation for dance, music, and the performing arts within the small rural county.

Inspired by a comment overheard from a student at a nearby area school, "Well, we don't have a performing arts program",  ECHS Drama changed its name to ECS Performing Arts.  With much growth to the program over the span of its first 8 years, this extra curricular club can now be deemed a "program."
