Music and Literature often go hand in hand to the point that sometimes it's difficult to understand music without understanding Literature. Many bands/singers have been influenced by authors like Edgar Allan Poe. Poe, as we have already seen, is one of the fathers of Gothic Literature with recurrent themes such as sadness, loneliness and desperation. Bands like Joy Division, The Cure or even Nirvana talk about these themes in their songs. Ian Curtis (Joy Division) and Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) even committed suicide because these emotions were stronger than their wish to live.
