This term we are going to do lots of talking, in English, about the book you have to read. We are going to have our "Literature Talks", which are going to be recorded and shared with the world.
As there are so many of you in the class this is the way you are going to work:
Get yourselves organised in groups of 5/6 people.
Discuss the questions given here plus any other aspects of the novel which caught your attention while reading.
Choose a spokesperson.
In the last 10 minutes the spokesperson from each group will have to share their group's ideas with the rest of the class.
THE TELL TALE HEART
"The Tell Tale Heart" is really a study of madness. The story is told from the point of view of the narrator, who says that he has problems with his nerves, but is convinced that he is not mad. He tells the story of an obsession. Answer the following:
What does the narrator become obsessed with?
How does the old man feel?
Mention some of the signs of the narrator's madness.
Explain what happens at the end.
THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH
What are the symptoms of the Red Death?
Why do you think red is such an important colour in this story?
Describe the 7th Room. How would you feel in a room like that?
"Darkness, Destruction and the Red Death were the masters of all". Explain.
THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM
Describe the 1st scene of the story: the judges and how the narrator feels.
Talk about the horrors of Toledo as described by the narrator.
Describe the cell.
What is his plan to escape? Does he escape?
THE PREMATURE BURIAL
There are two stories told at the beginning of "The Premature Burial". What's the difference between the two stories?
What are the symptoms of catalepsy?
Describe what happened to the narrator and what he learnt from it.
THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE
Describe the murder scene and say how the two women died.
What was the relation between the two women?
Who killed the two women? What happened?
LIGEIA
Describe Ligeia physically and character wise.
How did the narrator feel when Ligeia die and what did he do?
How did he feel about his new wife?
How did he feel when she died?
Explain what happens at the end.
In which way could this story be autobiographical?
