Christian Testimony:
Shortly after my husband, Darryle, and I moved to a little community called Burnwell, Alabama, in 1975, we started getting visits from some of the local people who had started a small Independent Baptist Church in the area. Of course, we kept putting off ever attending the church for a few years as we were both involved in a country western band at the time. But, in 1978, I gave birth to a 7 lb. 10 oz. little boy named Matthew. Around this same time, we visited the church during a revival. It was then, I believe, God began to convict my heart of sin. In 1979, we would attend on occasion but without any real commitment. In August of that same year, my husband rededicated his life to the Lord. It wasn’t until September 30, 1979, that I surrendered my will to God’s will and was gloriously saved. I have never regretted that decision.
Music and Life:
Over the next two months, my sister, dad and mom were saved and baptized. Because my dad had played in a band almost all his adult life, music was always at the center of all the family functions. It just felt natural to start singing and playing for the Lord. The problem was that we knew very few songs. My dad prayed for God to give him new songs to sing, so he quickly wrote three of his own. We were soon asked to sing at revivals and homecomings so the pressure was on to learn more songs. A family Gospel group was formed called The Family Circle and for several years we sang almost every weekend. It was a very sad day in December 1987, when we disbanded and performed for the last time. However, we never stopped singing as individuals. My husband surrendered to the preaching ministry and has been my pastor since 1984. We have continued to sing in our local church where we have served since 1990. I count it a privilege to sing for the Lord wherever and whenever I can.
Influences:
Some of the greatest musical influences in my life have been the Inspirations, the Hoppers, the Nelons, the Hemphills, the Goodmans, Gold City Quartet, the Crabb Family, the Hoskins, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, the McKameys, the Isaacs and of course, my dad, Floyd “Bill” Busby. I thank God for the blessings He has poured out on me through the gift of music.
