Birth, marriage and death certificates

Over the years, I've collected dozens of birth, marriage and death certificates relating to Dylan's relations on the Llansteffan peninsula. Those certificates that were gathered for the first volume of Dylan Remembered (2003) were deposited in the National Library of Wales.

Further certificates were then put online at https://sites.google.com/site/dylanthomasandtheedgeoflove/

The research for A True Childhood pulled in even more certificates; a few are shown below but please get in touch if there are any others you would like to see.

The first two marriage certificates below are for Dylan's maternal great-great grandparents, John Williams and Hannah Williams of Pen-y-coed farm, Llanybri, and Evan Harries and Anne Robert(s) of Plas Isaf, Llanybri.

The next certificate is for the marriage of Dylan's maternal great-grandparents, Thomas Williams, son of John and Hannah Williams of Pen-y-coed farm, and Anne Thomas, daughter of Evan and Anne Harries of Plas Isaf, Llanybri. Thomas and Anne lived at Waunfwlchan farm, Llangain, where Dylan's grandmother, Hannah Williams, was brought up. The witnesses are Thomas' sister, Sarah Williams, and Anne's brother Thomas Thomas (previously Thomas Harries.)

This last marriage certificate below, from 1863, is that for Jane Lloyd of Glogue farm, Llangain, and William Phillips of Cwmllyfri farm, Llanybri, who was Vera Killick's grandfather. The marriage gave William (and the Phillips family in general) two important connections to the Williamses of Waunfwlchan and Pen-y-coed. First, Jane’s father, William Lloyd, was a first cousin to Thomas Williams of Waunfwlchan (see the Lloyd family tree on this site). Second, Janes’s mother, Margaret, was the first cousin of Jane Daniel, daughter of Sarah Williams of Pen-y-coed. Sarah was also the sister of Thomas Williams of Waunfwlchan. The families became more closely related in 1865, when William's brother, Thomas Phillips, married Theodocia Harries (aka Thomas), sister of Anne Williams of Waunfwlchan, and daughter of Evan and Anne Harries of Plas Isaf, Llanybri.

Here are certificates for some of the deaths mentioned in A True Childhood:

  • Rachel Jones, Pentrewyman, mother of Jim Jones Fernhill, 1874

  • William Lewis, Dylan's paternal great-grandfather, 1888

  • Gladys Williams, daughter of Anne Gwyn (nee Williams), Plas Uchaf, Llanybri, 1893

  • Anne Williams (formerly Gwyn of Plas Uchaf), half-sister to Dylan's mother, Florence, 1922

  • Annie Jones Fernhill, Florence's sister, 1933
