Welcome Back to School
Dear Parents,
Hello, Parents, I am Dylan Alexander and I will be your child’s second grade English and Language Arts teacher this year. I hope that this year will be an awesome year for us all, but I am reaching out to all parents to inform you all of who I am, what my goals are for this year, as well as what my goals are for the classroom. Parent I would like to bring this to your attention that communication between school and home is critical to your child’s success. With that being said my email address is Dylan.Alexander@houstonisd.org or you will be able to give me a call whenever I am available I will gladly be able to talk to you about your student’s struggles as well as achievements made thus far. Also, if you ever feel the need to stop by in school for an in-person conversation I will be more than happy to meet you all that I ask is communicating with me beforehand so that I can make preparations for the meeting.
Just a short introduction about myself I was born and raised in Houston. I’ve graduated from Ross Shaw Sterling Aviation High School then pursued my Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Learning at the University of Houston. I am a first-year teacher, but I feel as prepared as ever to fulfill your child’s academic needs. Outside of the classroom, I like to cook, read, play games with loved ones and friends, as well as work out at the gym.
My goal for this year for being a first-year teacher is to be comfortable and understanding will all of my students regardless of the situation outside of the classroom. This year I would like to improve on my communication with all parents and guardians. Parents for me to achieve my yearly goal I will need your cooperation. This year I have various methods of communication between the teacher and parent. There are various ways to communicate with me such as email: Dylan.Alexander@houstonisd.org, or by phone call, or even through our class dojo. For class dojo, your children receive a paper that details how you as the parents or guardians can join the class.
My goals for the class this year are to improve district-wide student achievement on the following such as increasing reading fluency, the use of correct punctuation, as well improve story comprehension understanding the plot, main idea, supporting details, setting, solution, and theme. For non-academic classroom goals, I would hope that I would learn something new from all of your children. I would also like for you to know that my classroom will be a safe space where children can go to calm down, be alone, and recharge so they are ready to learn. One of my most important goals is to ensure that your student is comfortable enough that they are ready to learn.
In conclusion, parents I would like to thank you all for reading this email. For this year I am looking forward to being yours and your child’s best first-year teacher that I could be. This year I plan on improving my communication with you all. Parents I would hope that you see improvements in your child’s reading comprehension and reading fluency. Also, if you feel that there is something that you feel that your child needs to work on at a second-grade level please communicate with me via email, in-person, or phone and I will be available to work on that achievement level for you.
Best,
Dylan Alexander
