1923

In November a loan authority was obtained to spend £2500 on a modern fire station, tenders to be considered in 1925,  There was much controversy over the decision to build this station in Calliope Rd as it would be replacing the 4 existing stations, one of which was in Kerr St, and it was thought by many that Kerr Street would have been the better site.  Demonstrations and protest marches were held but to no avail.

The success of the Devonport Fire Brigade in winning the Auckland District Shield, the coveted trophy for the best volunteer brigade, was made, the occasion of two interesting little ceremonies this week.  The Mayor of the Borough (Mr. H.S.W. King), presented the brigade with a handsomely framed photograph of the winning team, and Councillor R.T. Michaels last evening presented the Council with a similar gift.  He said it was the duty of older men to encourage clean sport and the competition between the volunteer brigades was one of those things wich should be encouraged. The Mayor accepted the photograph on behalf of the council.

Isn't this great, I had the names of those in the photo, but no idea when it was, now this photo is dated in time and place.
