Membership FAQ Dubuque Izaak Walton Chapter
What does membership mean? Membership means you are part of the Dubuque Chapter Izaak Walton, as well as the National IWLA organization. You will be part of our local group made up of people from all walks of life, from locations in the entire Tri-State area and beyond, who have common interests and hobbies in the shooting sports and conservation. See www.iwla.org for more details.
What will my membership get me? | Your $90 (single) members/ $120 (family) membership will provide discounts on many things, including rounds of trap/skeet range, matches such as IDPA pistol competitions, Tactical Basics, AR Challenge League, and other special events. National IWLA membership will get you communications such as a quarterly newsletter and informational emails. With the discounts alone, you could potentially reclaim your entire fee each year! But most importantly, the money goes towards maintaining our facility, replacing old equipment, remodeling our Chapterhouse and many other projects! (We also have Student memberships available as well!) You must attend a Member Orientation, covering the use of the grounds, rules, policies, and SAFETY in order to join our chapter. Orientations are normally scheduled from January through October.
Where are you located? We are located on Thunder Hills Road, off of Highway 20 just before the Peosta, Iowa exit. We are directly across the road from the Thunder Hills golf course– specifically across from their water hazard. Our chapter was organized in 1918 and has been at the Thunder Hills location since the early 1970’s, founded by a small group of men and women who wanted a place to shoot, yet not be too far away from town. Since then, of course, the former farm fields have become subdivisions, many in close proximity to our grounds. We strive to do what we can to live in harmony with nature and our nearby neighbors.
What does Membership with Gate Access mean? Acquiring a Membership with Gate Access grants you additional privileges on our grounds. It means that you have access (The Access Card is what opens the gate) to the Chapter ranges to shoot by yourself (when other events are not occurring, taking up the range). This is a larger responsibility as well as an additional liability, for our Chapter and members. To get Gate Access, the member must attend an Orientation covering the additional information about the use of the grounds, and the additional rules, policies, and safety requirements for the additional privileges of this level of membership. Orientations are normally scheduled from January through October.
How long does your Membership last? Our Memberships are for one year, beginning on January 1st, ending on December 31st. This also applies to members with gate access. The gate access data is changed on January 1st of each year-- so DON'T FORGET TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP AND GATE ACCESS PRIVILEGES BEFORE JANUARY 1st each year!
