Membership FAQ

Membership FAQ Dubuque Izaak Walton Chapter

What does membership mean? Membership means you are part of the Dubuque Chapter Izaak Walton, as well as the National IWLA organization. You will be part of our local group made up of people from all walks of life, from locations in the entire Tri-State area and beyond, who have common interests and hobbies in the shooting sports and conservation. See www.iwla.org for more details.

What will my membership get me? | Your $90 (single) members/ $120 (family) membership will provide discounts on many things, including rounds of trap/skeet range, matches such as IDPA pistol competitions and other special events, National IWLA membership will get you communications such as a quarterly newsletter and informational emails. With the discounts alone, you could potentially reclaim your entire fee each year! But most importantly the money goes towards maintaining our facility, replacing old equipment, remodeling our Chapterhouse and many other projects! (We also have Student memberships available as well!)

Where are you located? We are located on Thunder Hills Road, off of Highway 20 just before the Peosta, Iowa exit. We are directly across the road from the Thunder Hills golf course– specifically across from their water hazard. Our chapter has been located here since the early 1970’s, founded by a small group of men and women who wanted a place to shoot their guns, yet not be too far away from town. Since then, of course, the former farm fields have become subdivisions, adding to the local population numbers and also their proximity to our grounds. We strive to do what we can to live in harmony with nature and our nearby neighbors.

What is a (Gate) Key Membership and what does that mean? Acquiring a Key Membership grants you additional privileges on our grounds. It means that you have access (The Key is what opens the gate) to the Chapter ranges to shoot by yourself (when other events are not occurring, taking up the range). This is a larger responsibility as well as liability, for our Chapter as well as the member. To get a key an Orientation, covering the use of the grounds, rules and policies, and SAFETY is required. Orientations are normally scheduled from February through September.

How long does your Membership last? Our Memberships are for one year, beginning on January 1st, ending on December 31st. This also applies to members gate key (if applicable).  The gate lock is promptly changed on January 1st of each year-- so DON'T FORGET TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP AND KEY before Jan 1 each year!

What are Chapter Meetings and what goes on there? We have Chapter meetings on the 2nd Thursday of every month. The meetings are scheduled at 7:30pm.
