Pi Sigma Alpha

President-Elect

In 2022, I was nominated and elected as the Pi Sigma Alpha's President-elect for two years. I will begin my role as President in 2024.

I served as faculty advisor to Oakland University’s award-winning ΠΣΑ (Pi Sigma Alpha, National Political Science Honor Society, www.pisigmaalpha.org) chapter - Nu Omega. This talented student group has been named “Best Chapter” by the national office six times during my time as advisor.

Nu Omega has also earned awards from Oakland’s Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development, for Outstanding Political/Social Awareness Program and Student Organization of the Year. The chapter won the Outstanding Political/Social Awareness Program for its grant-funded film series, which featured four films about policy topics: Thank You for Smoking, Hot Coffee, Our Brand is Crisis and La Haine.

As the Nu Omega chapter advisor, I provide guidance to the chapter officers, assist with chapter operations, process membership applications through the national office, answer student questions, encourage smart financial decisions, and attend meetings, ceremonies and events. I help promote Pi Sigma Alpha to other students on campus, and encourage membership in the chapter.

The Pi Sigma Alpha National Student Research Conference is hosted annually in Washington, DC. Undergraduate Pi Sigma Alpha members present their research findings in a professional setting with opportunities for engagement with peers. During my time as faculty advisor, Oakland University has sent the most student presenters to the conference.

Nu Omega hosted The Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Journal of Politics from 2013-2019 and during this time I served as the Faculty Editor of the journal.  The journal publishes outstanding undergraduate research from around the United States on a bi-annual basis and is completely operated by undergraduate students who review, edit and publish material. Undergraduates are encouraged to submit their original research to the Journal for publication. The journal publishes manuscripts in all areas of political science.

In my role as the Faculty Editor I advised the student editorial board, fielded questions from potential authors, assisted with review and selection of materials, and coordinated the editing and publishing of the journal.
