I began my teaching career at the University of Saskatchewan where I taught more than 30 adult conversational classes at the university`s Centre for Second Language (today the Language Centre). As part of my graduate project in Continuing Education, I developed a Spanish language course for adults that I implemented with staff at the international branch of the University College of the Cariboo (today Thompson Rivers University) in Kamloops, British Columbia. I also taught all undergraduate levels of Spanish language classes at the University of Saskatchewan, all of which had a cultural, literary and/or translational component. During the academic year 2006-2007 I acted as the Coordinator of the Spanish language section of the Department of Languages and Linguistics. From 2007 to 2012 I taught at the University of Ottawa, and the following two years at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. I am currently teaching at the University of Waterloo.
Teaching Interests
I have really enjoyed, and am still teaching, Spanish-language courses at all levels; including English-Spanish contrastive grammar and translation. At the same time, I want to continue teaching the cultures of the Hispanic world, either as courses dedicated only to cultural topics, or as part of a class that combines language, culture and/or literature. While my primary interest lies in Spanish American fiction, I also teach survey and specialized courses on periods, topics and genres in both Spanish and Spanish American literature. I welcome the opportunity to teach general and/or specialized liberal arts courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
