Dr.Hunter's Microbiology

Welcome to immunology and/or microbiology! Are you interested in the medical fields? Do you plan on performing laboratory research? Do you envision a career in food safety or protecting the environment? Maybe you're interested in controlling infectious diseases, or preventing bioterrorist attacks. Perhaps you want to teach, become a technical writer, or make new discoveries in bioenergy. All of these paths, and more require an understanding of microbiology. Microbiology expertise is in high demand, due to advances in biotechnology, emerging health challenges, environmental problems, and bioterrorism threats

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microbes. Microbes are the hidden powers on planet Earth. They are by far the most abundant life form (numbering at least in the quintillions!) - it's a microbial  planet - they drive biogeochemical cycles and are essential partners in biological interactions with  other organisms, including humans.

Microbiology will underpin our approach in the 21st century to emerging infectious diseases and  antibiotic resistance, new biotechnologies, global warming and concerns over energy security.

Yet, our knowledge of microbial diversity and function is still only limited.
