This following interactive lessons were made for a GED skills project using a grant acquired by one of the librarians at my former school. I completed these two lessons while a colleague completed two others. Both of the lessons were made with SoftChalk.
The challenge of this lesson was deciding on what to do. I had freedom to choose the subject. Working with a faculty member from the adult education department at Harper College and using a GED workbook to understand what types of language skills an individual would need to pass the test, I decided on subject/verb agreement. One of the ideas I believe would be beneficial would be to make the lesson as simple as possible. To me that meant I did not want to overwhelm the learner with lots of text.
For the math lesson I was asked to cover order of operations and measures of central tendency. Once again I worked with an instructor in the adult education department and referenced a GED workbook. The challenge in this lesson was how to incorporate some visuals and using proper mathematical symbols. Luckily SoftChalk has the symbols built into the software so that ended up being easier than I thought it was going to be. For visuals I had to create my own including the graphics I used at the beginning of each part and for the examples. I also incorporated charts for ease of viewing the data.
This was created using SoftChalk for the course Advanced Instructional Media Design as part of a group project. My goal was to create an on-demand lesson for educators to learn about what Twitter is, how to create an account and how to use it either in the classroom or for professional development. I chose SoftChalk due to the ability to insert it directly into a website using html code. I also liked its ability to create interactive content.
