Towards the end of your contract, the coordinator's office can provide you with a statement of employment in English, which verifies your school placement and the time that you worked with the DMOE. Normally, this document is required when applying to other jobs (within or outside of South Korea) to prove prior teaching experience. This letter will be complete with a coordinator's signature and contact information, and will be printed on letterhead. If you need this document, please send an email (dmoe.cd@gmail.com) and be prepared to pick it up at the DMOE. It should take between 3-5 days to prepare but may take longer if it is a busy period at the office. We highly advise making a request for this document at least two weeks in advance. For directions to the DMOE, please see here.
You can also request for a proof of employment (재직증명서) from your school's administrative office. But keep in mind that it will be provided in Korean. For an English version, you may have to ask for a favor to your co-teacher or other English faulty ahead of time in getting an English version of it.
Our office does not provide reference letters as we cannot describe your work ethic to your future employer as we do not have any daily work encounters with you. You can however put one of the coordinators down for a basic work employment reference check but make sure to send us an email to notify us in advance. It is recommended that you ask your school for more personal, work related references as they have seen your work habits on a day to day basis. Use your best judgement when deciding who to ask within your school.
