Celebrating Diversity 2015-16

In 2015-2016, the AIA Seattle Diversity Roundtable observes the 30th anniversary of its 1986 origination.

The year's activities will include (draft 2015-16 program):

*ROUNDTABLE COMMITTEE MEETINGS, regularly held at AIA Seattle 4-5pm on the first Tuesday of the month, to engage design professionals in planning & activating Roundtable programs (including those listed below): ALL WELCOME;

*ARCHITECTS IN SCHOOLS: in concert with UW Architecture students & AIAS/UW, directing K-12 classroom sessions in Seattle-area schools to engage youth in architectural possibilities (Lead Alex Rolluda AIA);

*DIVERSITY BY DESIGN: updating exhibit (originated 2013-14) for April-June 2017 (tentative) showing of professional work produced by Seattle-area & Washington design firms demonstrating the power of design by individuals from diverse backgrounds; & seeking additional venues in & beyond Washington (Leads Mario Campos & Donald King).

*SUMMER SOLSTICE SERIES (6/23-24/2016) honoring Roundtable history including

*May 22-June 23 & onward Portraits of Architects: assembly, documentation, exhibit (venues tba)

*Thursday June 23 8am no-host gathering at the roundtable at Lowell's in the Market

*Friday June 24 4-7pm @ Center for Architecture: celebration of/panel discussion with Diverse Fellows, Roundtable originators/veterans & current & previous recipients of Diversity scholarships (endowed by the Roundtable to support UW Architecture students from diverse ethnic & racial backgrounds) at Center for Architecture & Design, moderated by Rico Quirindongo & Marga Rose Hancock;
