    • Apple’s iMovie (Macintosh)

    • Microsoft MovieMaker2 (Windows XP or Vista)

    • Microsoft PhotoStory3 (Windows XP only)

    • VoiceThread (Web 2.0 online tool, any computer)

Here is a short set of instructions for creating simple digital stories. That web page provides a variety of links to other websites that can help with learning the process. There are three programs that are good for beginners: Microsoft MovieMaker2 (versions for XP or Vista), Microsoft PhotoStory (XP only), iMovie 6 (Mac OS X - download)

In summary, here is a brief sequence of steps:

• 1. Script development: write the story, often with a group called a story circle to provide feedback and story development ideas

  2. Record the author reading the story (audio recording and editing)

  3. Capture and process the images to further illustrate the story (image scanning and editing)

  4. Combine audio and images (and any additional video) onto a timeline, add music track** (video editing)

  5. Present or publish finished version of story

** If using MovieMaker 2 for Windows, then the music track must be added to the narration audio track, since only one audio track is available in that software.
