Although a hashtag is based around postings on a particular topic it is also a collective of interested people. In this section you get to meet the people who posted the Tweets collected on the 24 Hours of Tweets page.
These are the 19 twitterers who posted a total or 49 Tweets about Torchwood on Sunday 1st November 2009. All of those included have public profiles and the arrows shows who follows who. Almost half of the twitterers are connected in some way. The image below shows the connected groups and those whose followers/following did not interact with the Torchwood hashtag on the day I looked at activity on the tag.
Not mapped above are the honourable mentions in the #Torchwood stream - ReTweets from @RachelJMorin, @Veta_Black, and @peternoster. These participants have not been included as for this mini ethnography I felt it was appropriate to focus on those that had activitely participated with the #Torchwood hashtag on the day observed.
A disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated I have taken on trust the locations/names of Tweeters given on profiles. I suspect this to be a hit and miss method but appropriate to the scale and ethics of this ethnography.
