Purpose

In this course students will examine the various roles of the library information specialist as well as how the library plays an integral role in an educational environment. Managerial and organizational issues will be explored. Students will create and compile various documents that will be the basis of an electronic portfolio that the students can reflect upon after the completion of the course.

Course Objective

• The learner will define the roles and responsibilities of a school librarian.
• The learner will relate the management of school libraries to contemporary and emerging trends and issues in education.
• The learner will locate and use appropriate research and professional resources for the management of school libraries.
• The learner will understand appropriate policies and procedures for school library management.
• The learner will identify and apply state and national standards that impact the management of school libraries.
• The learner will describe how school library programs support student achievement.
