Philosophy of Supervision

Hello, my name is Derya Yidirim. Welcome to my site about supervision.

To begin, I would like to share my philosophy of supervision with you. I believe there are two major components to supervision which are: 1) supporting your team and 2) promoting an environment that fosters innovation. Seeing your vision and goals come to life takes everyone’s support. I know that I cannot run a school on my own; which is why I would like to incorporate other individuals’ opinions during important decision-making. I will share my power with others as I use it to empower them. As a future leader my main focus will be to support my team and provide an environment that stimulates forward thinking “teammates”. One of my favorite sayings that I truly believe in is “Team work makes the dream work”!

I hope the future school I lead will cultivate an atmosphere of trust, safety, structure, open-dialogues, and ownership through the use of community service learning, class meetings, assemblies, workshops, community open houses, student performances, and student/teacher/parent goal settings and assessments. My hopes are to maximize the students’ intellectual, physical and social potential. I strive to encourage teachers and students to evolve into critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and to become responsible citizens in a technological, multicultural society.

Additionally, supervision is more than just evaluations and summarizations. Good supervision leads teachers and schools towards a respectable collaborative work environment. Once a collaborative work environment is established teachers will inadvertently learn from each other and move forward as better teachers. The important part is not only establishing but also fostering the collaborative work environment. This can only be done with an appropriate supervision plan. An effective supervision plan can only be successful if the end result is always at the center and is the main focus of both the actions of the teachers and evaluators. Schools are successful when new ideas are able to flourish and when students are able to gain important lessons from these innovations. I believe in open communication relationship between teacher, parent, student, and administration.
