After May half term students should be given a new A4 Orange book which they will take into year 10. Remind students of presentation and keeping the book free of graffiti. Other things to note about books;
1) Calculator buttons should be written on the front cover of the book neatly.
2) Back inside cover used to write down formulae
3) Pages at the back of the book used to write a glossary of key words and definitions
Topics are taken from the Edexcel GCSE in Mathematics A (1MA0)
The topics that should be covered are numbers: 8, 20, 25, 29.
Topic 8 - Construction and loci
Topic 20 - Pythagoras and trigonometry
Topic 25 - Similarity and Congruence
Topic 29 - Sine and cosine rules
The thinking is that this should be a Pythagoras and Trigonometry led topic, 9L1, L2, R1, R2 can access most of this, proofs and reasoning is stronger at GCSE now so the similarity, congruence gives opportunity for this. Similarity work leads into trig and Higher groups can explore ratio of areas, volumes as well as lengths.Right-angled trig by all groups, but obviously only top groups may move onto Sine and Cosine rules. We should try to be as creative and practical as possible and these topics lend themselves to this. Take it as far as your group allows.
