What do we do and why?
In KS3 the department uses the ideas behind the White Rose Scheme of Work. This teaches students in longer blocks to allow students time to develop a deeper understanding of each topic. All students are taught the same curriculum with core knowledge and core skills (KPIs) running throughout each topic.
In KS4 the department follows the AQA GCSE syllabus. From September 2019 the year 10 SOW will be organised into longer blocks in the same way as the KS3 scheme. The year 11 students will follow the old SOW. Students with target grades of 5/6 (set 2) will follow the foundation in a year scheme to build a strong platform to move onto higher topics in year 11. Skills tests are used once a fortnight to help track progress of the core skills and allows both the teacher and students to understand areas for improvement.
Mastery style questions and activities are used in all year groups to allow students to develop their problem solving skills.
