This course explores the theoretical foundations of bilingual and English language development and foreign language instruction. This will include the developmental stages of language acquisition, and the seminal works and major research findings in first and second language acquisition. Topics include historical and current theories and models of language acquisition, which have implications for second language (L2) pedagogy, the psychological, social, political, and cultural influences on second language acquisition (SLA), and the

development of literacy.
