This course prepares prospective teachers to apply a balanced, integrated, interactive perspective to teaching reading/language arts in an elementary classroom, grades K through 8. Focus of the course is on the foundational skills and strategies needed in the developmental phase of "learning to read," which is essential to the next phase of "reading and learning for life." This course addresses research-based knowledge and instructional practices aligned with the California Reading/Language Arts Framework for California Public Schools.
