" With loyalty will I ... devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care..." ~Florence Nightingale~
As you page through this e-portfolio, I will try to introduce myself and demonstrate some of my unique capabilities. I have included a professional resume, a personal teaching philosophy, as well as, a page that details my research.
These chosen pieces of information, documentation and expertise are a personal attempt to demonstrate my abilities as a nurse, as an educator, and as a researcher. Johnson (2009) states “reflection and reflective commentary take an e-portfolio to the next level…. Reflective comments should open up a window into why this individual thinks this evidence is important (p.390)."
An e-portfolio also tells an individual’s story of “looking back, looking around, and looking ahead" (Johnson, 2009, p.390). Teachers bring into the classroom bits of themselves. It is this diversity of temperament, background, and experience which colors the student’s perception of the nursing profession and provides a glimpse into their future. It is incumbent upon the teacher to guide with a sense of fairness, professionalism and passion. Ethical behavior, clinical excellence, and experience are needed to generate trust. I feel that my professional and personal background have provided me with the necessary clinical experiences to generate this trust and have also provided me with the passion necessary to help educate and excite the future nurses of South Carolina.
