In this Section we look at the towns and villages that our ancestors came from. In the broadest sense we came say (as is written on various census returns) they came from Russia (or in some cases from the Austro-Hungarian Empire) - but those were the political realities (and rulers) of the time. Now we would say that they came from Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine (and possibly Romania). The Empires crumbled and the borders changed - as did the names. What's more, we have to note that a name like Sirvintos (Sheervint) that Grandma gave as her birthplace was a province, a town and also the name of the main street in the village of Gedrovitch where records state that Tuvye's famiyl came from.
