Welcome to the DAVNOB Family History Section
This is the Family History Section of Davnob. As well as the material from the original Davnob (Uncle Joe's account of the Davidson history) there are pages of oral history (conversations in the 1980s and stories told at the family reunion in 1998), and a portrait of Uncle Moishe written by his grandson, Jonathan Fligg. There is the story (as far as we have discovered) of Avram Haim, Grandpa Davidson, and material from Uncle Lou about the Noble history.
More recent research has looked back to the families in Vilna and Kovno before and during the Second World War, and further back to the places from which the Dawidowicz, Knobel, Salit and Shachness families originally stemmed. (See the 'Where we came from section'). There is a fascinating account of the brave war-time experiences of Emilia Salit-Aleksandrowicz, the only one of the Salits who remained in Lithuania who survived the holocaust. She is mentioned by Minnie and Sophie in the Oral History pages.
Of course, some of this can also be found in Generations, the book written about the family history that is still avaiable from Lulu publications (or the US Amazon site, but shipping outside the US is then expensive). However a lot of information has emerged since it was published in 2008 - so it might be worth waiting until a possible second edition.
Information about our family history is constantly emerging - so this website will always be a 'work in progress' - bookmark it so you can check it out from time to time.
If there is no menu visible on the left of this section, click top left to access it for all the History links, or you can return to the main Davnob site.
