30 oz Tumblers

There are a lot of videos on how various tumblers compare to the Yeti. Most are just looking to see if there is ice still there after X hrs. I wanted to do something more quantitative. So I ran 2 different test. 1st was ice only and how much each retained after X hours. 2nd ice and water and what was the temp after X hours.

Ice Only

So I placed 10 oz of ice in 5 Yeti, 5 Sam's Club Member's Mark, 3 Mossy Oak, and 2 Rtic 30 oz tumblers. All were new with the exception of the 2 Rtics which we have had for a few months.

I rinsed all with tap water, dried them and allow them to equilibrate to room temperature (70-75 degree F). I then weighed each container and added 9.7 - 10.5 oz (275 - 299 grams) of ice. I then measured the new weight of each tumbler twice and subtracted the dry weight of the tumbler from the mean weight of the tumbler and ice to determine the weight of ice added. Water was decanted off and weighed from each tumbler at 6, 16, and 24 hours. Also at the 24 hour measurement the ice was removed from the tumbler and weighed. There were 5 Yeti, 5 Member's Mark, 3 Mossy Oaks, and 2 Rtic. Data is attached below.

As you can see from the graph below each brand did very similar. The sample size was too small (especially for RTic and Mossy Oak) to preform formal statistical test. I'm pretty sure that there would be a statistical significant difference but in the real world having 40% or 34% of your ice remaining in a cup after 24 hours really does not make a difference.

Ice and Water

Another way to review the various tumblers is to look at the temp of water over time. As before each was allowed 24 hours to equilibrate to room temperature (70-75 degree F). Each tumbler was filled with 8 oz of ice and then 14 oz of tap water which was 60 degrees Fahrenheit. At 13 hours only the Mossy Oak contained any ice. The temp of each container was measured over time. Although there is some differences between the tumblers, all were very similar and typically within 2 or 3 degrees. There were 5 Yeti, 5 Member's Mark, 3 Mossy Oaks, and 3 Rtic. Data is attached below.
