Dr. Reingold received an A.B. from Dartmouth College, a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, and has additional research experience at the University of Alberta, the University of Chicago, Dartmouth College, and the University of Zurich. He previously taught at Haverford College, Middlebury College, Lewis and Clark College, and taught at Juniata 1988-2012.

He was awarded Juniata's Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1992 and the Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service in 2001. He has also received the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Scholar/Fellow Award (1995-7). He spent 12 years as chair of Juniata’s chemistry department, and was named the H. George Foster Professor of Chemistry.

As a member of the American Chemical Society, he served as secretary of the Green Mountain Section (1985-86) and on the Executive Committee for the Central Pennsylvania Section. He was a proposal reviewer for the National Science Foundation and the Petroleum Research Fund and article reviewer for the Journal of Organic Chemistry, Journal of Chemical Education and Tetrahedron Letters. He was a councilor on the Council on Undergraduate Research for several years, serving as chair of the chemistry division for two years, chair of the finance committee for three years, and was CUR's Volunteer of the Year for 2001. He has reviewed chemistry departments at other schools for CUR, ACS, and as an independent contractor.

Dr. Reingold has received over $1.3 million from private and federal funding agencies to support his research and other projects. Sources include the National Science Foundation, the Petroleum Research Fund, the Research Corporation, American Cyanamid Corporation, and the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation. He has supported nearly 100 undergraduate students in his labs, many of whom have been coauthors on his over thirty peer-reviewed papers. Among his students are more than 20 current college and university faculty. Other than his students, his two greatest contributions to chemistry are probably his major role in creating and publicizing Juniata’s Organic First curriculum, and his invention of a dispersed REU site called the TIM Consortium (Theoretically Interesting Molecules), which is still running and receiving funding from NSF.

He is the author of two textbooks: Organic Chemistry: An Introduction Emphasizing Biological Connections, and Preparation for Organic Chemistry. Both are available at the Kindle store.

Dr. Reingold is now retired to Portland, OR, where he is teaching scientific glassblowing at Portland State University. He is an officer of the Portland ACS section and also President of the Renewable Energy Scholarship Foundation.

He married Kay Balmer in 1974, and they have two children, Colin, a public defender in New Orleans, and Ali, an English teacher in Portland, and an adorable 6-year-old granddaughter.
