Prior to this season, the boys at ACME decided to project the 1sst round of the 2021 MLB draft using the rankings from various sites. It's attached to the Prospects List" page as "2021 MLB Draft".
Yesterday, the draft actually began. Suffice it to say, there's not a lot of correlation between the early projections and the actual picks. Projecting a lot of teenagers can prove pretty gamy.
On the bright side, after a lost minor league season in 2020, the WIFL draft was a little thin on top prospects. The end result? A lot of those unproven teenagers were drafted. And the results were predictable. The 2022 WIFL draft should be loaded. And don't expect a lot of guys in the 2022 MLB draft to be going in the 2022 WIFL draft!
7/1/21:
Four days into Period 14 and one can't help but notice that the team ranked 14th in points (and only 1-1/2 points out of last) is the 1st place Stompers.
The end result? Foghorn has been summoned back from his beachside cottage.
And the name heard the most? Yu Daarvish (3,14) of the Dingers.
Ironically, the Dingers acquired him in a 5/5/21 trade. But I guess you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.
And the team mentioned the most as buyer. The 2nd place Ichiros. And they certainly have the assets to be a serious buyer. In the latest ACME 250, they have pitchers ranked #3,4 and 10. And as noted earlier, Noah Syndrgaard and Luis Severino.
This season is shaping up to be quite interesting after all.
7/12/21:
It's more in place to start doodling rather being close to the final listing, but it does provide a glimpse of what those 1st round draft choices might be worth.
In any case, the boys have included a VERY early list of their 2022 ACME 250.
The boys at ACME noted that CBS came out with the first prospect rankings for 2022. And they excluded any prospect they figured would lose his prospect status in the last half of 2021. They also noted the conclusion of the 2021 MLB draft providing a whole new group of prospects. (Though they figure their rankings should probably follow the size of their bonuses rather than their draft slots.)
