Attendance Policy

For Wednesday (of MW courses) or Thursday (of T/TH courses) classes:

- If you have an unexcused absence on any Wednesday or Thursday, then you will miss out on the Participation points for that day (with no chance of earning them back).

- If you have an excused absence on any Wednesday or Thursday, then I will give you an assignment (related to the material that you missed) to allow you to earn the Participation points for that day.

For Monday or Tuesday classes (when we have a lab or stress management-related activity day):

- No attendance Policy

- BONUS POINTS: I will add 4 Bonus Points to your Participation grade if you attend every class on Monday (of MW courses) or Tuesday (of T/TH courses) or have an excused absence for any day that you missed. If you miss only one day (unexcused absence), you will earn 2 Bonus Points. Two or more unexcused absences on Mon or Tues (depending on which class you are in) will result in no extra Bonus Points.

Please click on the "Attendance Policy" link below to bring you to the official MU webpage that describes what an excused absence is. I require some form of documentation for all types of excusable absences. That is, if you want an absence excused, you will need to provide me with something to show why, when, and where you were on the day of your absence...

Additional Attendance Policy Concerns

For not participating in physical activity labs/exercise periods = Unexcused Absence

    • Professor Keefer reserves the right to judge whether or not your are actively participating

Not dressed appropriately for activity labs/exercise periods = Unexcused Absence (You will be told if/when you need to dress for some type of activity ahead of time)

Lateness is not tolerated:

For Wednesday or Thursday classes:

  • If you are late, you miss out on any Quiz question that has already been completed. The first Quiz question is always worth 4 points and will be given during the first 30 seconds of class.

For Monday or Tuesday classes:

    • Every 2 late days is equivalent to 1 Unexcused Absence

    • If more than 5 min late, that day counts as an Unexcused Absence

Leaving early is not tolerated:

    • If a student leaves class (and does not come back) without telling the instructor, then that day counts as an Unexcused Absence
