Hi! I’’ve never thought of myself as a writer, but I guess some of my friends interests have rubbed off on me! These are my dabbles. I’m not sure how good they are, but they were really fun to write!--Jaime
A Monday Kind of Friendship
Everybody knows that song,
“A Sunday Kind Of Love”, by Etta James?
Well, what if
People can also have
A Monday kind of friendship?
Hear me out.
People hate Mondays because
Work can be a drag, right?
I get it.
But I also know some people
Who get to work with
People they like.
Pretty cool, huh?
So, a Monday kind of friendship
Is one where you acknowledge that work is the
Bane of your existence--
Sometimes--
But the people around you make up for it.
And maybe there’s
One person
Who gives you
#Fridayfriendship goals
The kind for telling tall tales,
Drinking grape juice,
Laughing,
And knowing that this person
Always has your back…
No matter what day of the week it is.
Hope
Hope is like a balloon.
It sails along the winds of change.
Hold it tight and let it bounce over the breeze.
Sometimes you lead it,
Grasping the string,
Propelling it forward
With passion and purpose.
Then there are the times
It leads you,
Buoyant, riding on the breeze,
And you pick up the pace,
Determined to follow it
Wherever it goes.
Waiting
This feeling I just can’t shake--
Will I ever get my big-time break?
The lights, the glitz, the glamor and
The chance to be
Someone other than me
And head off to Hollywoodland.
Shouts of, ‘can I have your autograph?’
My comedy flick really made ‘em laugh
Twenty-five people on my staff
I’d never treat them like riff-raff.
There’d be no dressing room demands,
Shade thrown at co-stars, or one-night stands;
I wouldn’t let the tabloids bait me
By making claims half the world hates me.
I would be the kind of star
Who’s really as nice as they say they are,
To fans, to exes, to whoever I’m dating…
I’m ready, for sure,
But now I’m just…
Waiting.
Lilo & Stitch At 4 A.M.
Here I go again--
Lilo & Stitch At 4 A.M.
Why am I awake?
Because there’s so much at stake.
Can I achieve the goal
That has blossomed in my soul?
Am I good enough,
Or is my effort just a bluff?
Then they catch another cousin,
So I forget the quandary I was in.
This is
Lilo & Stitch At 4 A.M.
Can I be absolute me?
The one that all the others see?
Can I step up to the plate?
It’s wearing on me, all this weight.
Then they catch another cousin,
So I forget the quandary I was in.
This is
Lilo & Stitch At 4 A.M.
I can do it,
Will, somehow--
Maybe not this moment, now--
But all it takes is who I am…
And Lilo & Stitch At 4 A.M.
I Know Where I Am
Orange juice, robin’s egg blue,
I know where I am.
Disney movies, romance novels,
I know where I am.
All the little things that make me my truest self
Coupled with the clear conviction
That I strive to stay that way
When others change their minds too many times
Or don’t know what to say.
I value empathy, hard work, and honesty,
I know where I am.
Passion is the key to life,
I know where I am.
Whenever my world is in chaos--
Or, sometimes, the world as a whole,
My constant is me, because I know I’ll stay
Grounded if I look in my soul.

People these days
Embrace fast pace
Everything's a race;
They're always aching to ace it all
And in this often frivolous fray
Something new invariably wins the day
But me, I need a somebody I can rely on
I take comfort in your character,
Find solace in your smile;
It's our special kind of repartee
That stands the test of time
If only I had known you--
Been acquainted with that is--
Long before the blues set in
I wouldn't have to ponder
All the moments that I missed
I take comfort in your character,
Find solace in your smile;
It's our special kind of repartee
That stands the test of time
If only I had known you--
Been acquainted with that is--
Long before the blues set in
I wouldn't have to ponder
All the moments that I missed
He’s Not Mine Today
I know he loves me;
I feel the same--
To us love is real,
And it isn’t a game.
But he’s not mine today.
I know that look in his eyes
When his mind is elsewhere…
And my only wish is
That I could be there
With him.
But do I have a right
To reign in his passion and shine
For my own?
Or am I better off
Letting the world see his sparkle
Even if I’m left feeling alone?
He’s not mine today.
But, what can I say?
I wouldn’t have it
Any other way.
When all that sunshine lights on me,
There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
Who can resist that star quality?
No one, as far as I can see.
I don’t blame them,
Technically;
It’s the purest kind,
From guile free,
So I don’t mind
That he’s not mine today.

I am who I am
I ain't what I'm not
I'm here to tell you
In case you forgot…
There’s somebody I’m glad to know
Who can balance bowling balls on his nose,
Do a handstand for hours without giving way,
Read at least 25 books in a day,
And answer any question you’ve got
With a thoughtful reply
And a smile, on the spot.
But I do not wear a million hats.
I can only wear one at a time, and that’s
Okay, because I can still be
Absolute, positive, genuine me.
To Those I’ve Known To Be…
To those I’ve known to be self-serving,
Over-indulgent and under-deserving;
I won’t make a habit of calling you out...
Instead, I’ll say this just once,
Without leaving a doubt:
Never take a kind heart for granted,
It isn’t wise to assume they’ll be around
After each and every time they are supplanted
By things you think you know until your certainties aren’t sound.
To those I’ve known to be generous of heart,
There’s no need to question what it tells you;
But rest assured, the ones who wonder if they’re doing right
Are the ones who nearly always truly do.

If you’re gifted with a sidekick
Who helps you through your strife--
Be they friend or relative, perhaps even husband or wife--
Always keep the joys in mind, whether in good times or bad,
Because some people would give just about anything
To have what you’ve always had.
