What's up? My friends seem to think that I’ve got a head for business, so here I am. I’m not after telling anybody what to do--just offerin’ up my opinion, and havin’ a bit of fun while I’m at it.
Tip #1-Start small-Let’s say you’re, I dunno, a baker in a little neighborhood, and you just set up shop, and you gotta drum up some business. The first thing you should do is put an ad in the local paper. That’ll put you on the map, as they say. Then, once you get a little foot traffic, set up a special event, like a baking workshop for kiddies. It’s crazy how fast word can sread when there’s somethin’ special goin’ on.
Tip #2-Find connections-You’ll never know what’ll happen if you ask around. Someone’s second-cousin twice removed might be a big-time wedding planner who’s looking for a partner in baked goods.
Tip #3-Get by with a little help from your friends-Alright, that’s also a line from a Beatles song, but what I mean here is, make sure you’ve got good people around. It can be harder than it sounds, but it can happen, and the best way to spot ‘em is…
Tip #4 Trust your gut-If there’s someone who’s a bit too caught up in the bottom line, or not givin’ you their all, show ‘em the door. On the other hand, if you’ve got someone who ‘gets’ you and what you’re aimin’ for, tell ‘em so.
Tip #5 Keep your options open- Nowadays, this is a fancy way of sayin’ ‘use social media, ‘cause every bit counts’. I reckon start with Facebook and Twitter, and then go from there. But different ones work better for different businesses; if you’re a baker, you might start with Instagram to show off all those tasty treats!
