“The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.”
Phi Theta Kappa's mission is two-fold: (1) recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and (2) provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.
At Lone Star College-CyFair, we are proud to represent the Beta Lambda Mu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), a prestigious five-star chapter recognized for our exceptional campus and community engagement activities. Our commitment to excellence has earned us this distinguished designation, highlighting our dedication to fostering student success and leadership.
Achieving a five-star designation is a significant honor that acknowledges chapters demonstrating outstanding achievement in various areas throughout the academic year. It serves as a benchmark for excellence in the following five categories:
We actively invite eligible students to join our chapter during two recruitment periods: January-June and July-December. Our Recruitment Toolkit provides valuable resources to ensure that we connect with and welcome new members effectively.
Engagement is vital for our chapter's success. We elect chapter officers and report them to PTK through the Advisor Dashboard. Each year, we ensure that at least one member completes a PTK Edge professional development course or Unit 1 of PTK’s Leadership Development Studies course. Additionally, our chapter advisors are committed to their professional growth by completing the Advisor Edge course.
Networking opportunities are essential for growth. Our chapter representatives participate in regional activities and events, including conferences and collaborative projects, allowing us to connect with other PTK chapters and leaders.
Leadership is at the heart of our mission. We implement a College Project—a collaborative effort between our chapter and college administration— and submit entries for both the College Project Hallmark Award and individual Hallmark Award categories.
Through our Honors in Action Project, we merge academic research with community action to address real-world challenges. We also submit our projects for the Honors in Action Project Hallmark Award, further demonstrating our commitment to discovery and impact.
The Beta Lambda Mu chapter has a proud history of accolades at both regional and national levels. We have been recognized for our exemplary work, including having one of our own officers elected as the 2023/2024 International President of Phi Theta Kappa. This achievement underscores our chapter's reputation within the organization, ensuring that you are joining a well-established and respected community.
As a member of Beta Lambda Mu, you will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities, develop your leadership skills, and contribute to both your campus and the wider community. We look forward to welcoming you to our chapter and working together to achieve new heights!
