Who can be enlisted as thesis examiners?

Any scientist working in a recognized university or institute, preferably a Professor but definitely not below the rank of Associate Professor. The thesis examiners' list may not contain any name from within the state. There should be at least three names from India.

[For candidates registering under the New Regulation: Six names, but 2-3 should be from within the state. No separate list for viva-voce examiners is needed.]

For whom are the new Ph.D. rules of CU applicable?

For those registered after 28/11/2016.

When can I make an Early Submission request?

You can make a request for early pre-Ph.D. seminar after one year of your registration. After you successfully present your seminar, you can apply for an early submission of thesis if you have enough international publications and/or show sufficient reasons for the application, like a postdoctoral offer from abroad.

What do I have to do to change the title of my thesis?

See Advisors' corner.

How many publications should I have for the thesis?

You can appear for the pre-Ph.D. seminar if you have at least one international publication for which you are the main author and which goes in your thesis. Unless the convention of your field is an alphabetical ordering of the authors, you should have at least one such publication as the first author. If your name appears alphabetically, your supervisor has to certify that you are the main author, and that certificate has to be submitted to the Ph.D. section along with the thesis.

As an advisor, what should I do to get enrolled?

All the faculty members of the Physics Department of CU as well as the Physics Departments of the sister institutes as recognised by the university are automatically enrolled. If you are not in this category, give us a hardcopy mail addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of CU, requesting to get yourself enrolled, with your background and a detailed CV, including the full list of publication.

I / my supervisor will be away on the scheduled date. What can I do?

You have to inform well in advance so that we can inform the next candidate. You will have another chance in the next Ph.D. meeting, and this will not affect the submission date for the 5000-word synopsis.

My supervisor is really pressed for time, can you schedule it as per her/his convenience?

No.

I am in a hurry, can you schedule it ahead of turn, maybe next week?

No. You have to await your turn. If you are in such a hurry, you should have submitted it before.
